Fleet Technician

The Fleet Technician is responsible for the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of all fleet assets. This role ensures that all maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs for Fiji Airways vehicles and equipment are performed to regulatory and company standards.

This role will report to Manager Transport.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee the safety and reliability of company vehicles through routine maintenance and regular inspections.
  • Conduct thorough vehicle health checks, including oil changes, brake repairs, tire rotations, and engine diagnostics, to maintain safety, reliability, and efficiency while minimizing costs, downtime, and environmental impact.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and other vehicle systems to ensure optimal performance.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records for all serviced vehicles and equipment to ensure regulatory compliance and enable performance tracking and data-driven decisions.
  • Lead safety inspections to ensure vehicle compliance with regulatory and company standards, promoting safe operations and reducing liability.
  • Respond to on-road breakdowns and perform emergency repairs to minimize operational disruption.
  • Coordinate with suppliers to order replacement parts through the procurement process, ensuring availability for timely repairs.
  • Use diagnostic tools and software to identify issues and monitor repairs.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized workspace by following all applicable health and safety regulations.
  • Manage inventory of tools, equipment, and parts to ensure essential spares are readily available.
  • Recommend improvements to enhance vehicle performance.
  • Perform in-house cosmetic repairs, including small panel repairs and painting, to address minor issues and reduce outsourcing costs.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Must have Certificate IV or Diploma in Automotive Technology.
  • Valid driving license (Classes 2, 5, and 6).
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in a similar role.
  • Strong mechanical and diagnostic skills.
  • Knowledge of both diesel and petrol engines.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Physically fit and capable of lifting heavy equipment.
  • Experience with fleet management software.
  • Knowledge of transport regulations and vehicle compliance standards.
  • Welding or fabrication experience (advantage).
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with good verbal communication.
  • Proficient in Windows and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to multitask effectively.
