Utility Hand - Savusavu (Fiji Link)

The purpose of the Utility Hand role is to contribute to the achievement of safe, secure, and on-time departures for all Fiji Link scheduled, positioning, and charter flights by delivering prompt and efficient cargo and baggage services in accordance with the relevant manuals within the Fiji Link Manual Suite.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Contributes to the safe and secure loading of baggage and cargo in accordance with the Loading Instruction Report (LIR) issued by the Load Controllers.
  • Ensures on-time departure for all scheduled, ferry, or charter flights by performing aircraft cleaning, replenishing, offloading (including delivery of bags to the carousel or International Terminal where applicable), and loading activities in line with the offloading and loading criteria stated in the GOM or Weight and Balance Manual.
  • Ensures safe handling of customer baggage and supports the safe movement of customers to and from the aircraft in accordance with the specific guidelines outlined in the Fiji Link Ground Operations Manual.
  • Monitors and ensures the safety of passengers on the tarmac during boarding and disembarking, mitigating any potential risk to customers and to Fiji Link.
  • Ensures proper distribution of duties and supports safe, secure departures by performing Utility Hand responsibilities, including LIR Officer, Baggage Makeup Officer, Catering Officer, Cleaner, Loading and Unloading Officer, and Driver (where applicable).
  • Performs any other operational duties assigned by the Team Leader or the Senior Manager Ground Operations to support smooth daily operations.
  • Ensures the baggage makeup area, aircraft movement area, and surrounding vicinity remain FOD-free to prevent injuries, incidents, and operational hazards.
  • Identifies and reports hazardous conditions, unsafe practices, and Ground Service Equipment deficiencies to relevant stakeholders.
  • Remains mindful of shift requirements and ensures adequate rest is taken to maintain alertness and fitness for duty.
  • Ensures that all cargo and ground operations are conducted in full compliance with applicable regulations and Fiji Link standards, including SMS, DAMP, FRMS, OHS, and other operational requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Form Six/Year 12 pass and/or equivalent (including Foundation Studies).
  • Possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be a self-starter and able to work with minimum supervision.
  • Must be well-organized and capable of working under pressure.
  • Able to build good working relationships and demonstrate a solution-focused approach.
  • Exposure to airport operations will be an advantage.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Possess a valid Grade 2 Fiji Vehicle Driver's Licence.
  • Physically fit and at least 170 cm tall to safely reach aircraft cargo hold height.
  • Experience in hospitality and/or a customer service-related role is an advantage.
