Manager Engineering - Special Projects, ERP & Training

The Manager Engineering - Special Projects, ERP & Training leads high-value engineering projects, including aircraft induction and end-of-lease returns, ensuring regulatory compliance, technical accuracy, and operational efficiency. The role requires expertise in aircraft systems, AMOS ERP, contract negotiation, and aviation training. It also oversees digital transformation initiatives and training programs to drive capability and continuous improvement within Engineering & Maintenance.

This role reports to the Senior Manager Engineering Continued Airworthiness.

Key Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Lead and manage the technical and operational aspects of introducing new or used aircraft into the Fiji Airways/Fiji Link AOC and the Fiji Civil Aviation Register.
  • Ensure full compliance with all regulatory requirements (CAAF, ICAO, FAA, EASA) during induction, including necessary updates to MMOE and ETOPS manuals.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and manufacturers to review aircraft specifications, deliver documents, and transition aircraft into operational readiness.
  • Oversee aircraft acceptance checks, conformity inspections, and post-delivery modifications, ensuring compliance with CAAF and ANR requirements, including emergency equipment fit.
  • Manage technical processes for end-of-lease aircraft returns, ensuring alignment with lease agreements, maintenance conditions, and cost management (typically $3-4M per aircraft).
  • Conduct detailed audits of aircraft records to meet contractual and regulatory standards.
  • Lead negotiations with lessors to address discrepancies and manage redelivery timelines while minimizing financial risk.
  • Coordinate with MROs, OEMs, and service providers for return maintenance, refurbishments, and component replacements.
  • Plan and manage cabin modification projects across departments including Sales, Operations, Procurement, and Production.
  • Liaise with technical services to ensure all modifications are approved, certified, and compliant with applicable regulations.
  • Review and manage project technical documents (engineering drawings, test plans, reports) through to completion.
  • Lead innovation initiatives such as AMOS Mobile, electronic tech logs, RFID, and digital archiving to enhance efficiency and reduce operational costs.
  • Administer the AMOS ERP system, ensuring accurate data control for maintenance forecasting, component tracking, and inventory management.
  • Conduct regular AMOS upgrades, health checks, and backups.
  • Oversee RFID Management Software integration for improved tracking and logistics.
  • Work closely with the Manager Quality Assurance & Compliance to align with the Corporate Safety Management System (SMS).
  • Participate actively in committees including Maintenance Review Group (MRG), Modifications Committee, SAG, and daily operational performance meetings.
  • Negotiate technical and support service contracts with manufacturers, vendors, and partners to secure value-driven operational support.
  • Manage lease agreements to support Fiji Airways' operational and financial goals.
  • Develop and implement technical training programs for engineering staff (initial, recurrent, and on-the-job).
  • Identify training needs, manage budgets, and ensure programs meet CAAF and company standards.
  • Maintain detailed training records in AMOS and physical formats.
  • Conduct competency assessments and practical evaluations to ensure workforce readiness.
  • Regularly update training content to reflect latest industry standards and technologies.
  • Execute any other duties or lead projects as directed by the Senior Manager Engineering & Continuing Airworthiness (SMECA).

  Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Degree in Engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience may be substituted for the minimum education requirement;
  • Three years of professional level experience in an Engineering Senior role is preferred.
  • Minimum of ten years of work experience in the commercial aviation industry is essential.
  • Experience in aircraft induction and exit projects would be beneficial.
  • Strong technical knowledge of aircraft systems, maintenance practices, and fleet management.
  • Proficiency in AMOS ERP system or similar maintenance software, with a focus on implementation, upgrades, and system optimization.
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and risk management skills.
  • A sound knowledge of Microsoft applications.
