Financial Accountant - Inventory and Fixed Assets
Reporting to the Manager Financial Control, the financial accountant - inventory and fixed assets manages the Fiji Airways Group's fixed assets and inventory register while ensuring the related financial reporting is compliant with International Financial Reporting Standards and the company policies and procedures.
The ideal candidate will be a subject matter expert in the role, primarily with asset management, while being at the forefront in monitoring the Capex approval process, open capital projects and delivering forecast expenditure to the Treasury team. This role also ensures that there is a sound internal control environment, proper governance of activities up to and including management of the fixed assets and inventory register.
A key responsibility of the role is to optimise compliance and control to establish an effective control environment, which not only meets today's requirements but is also flexible for future changes in operations and reporting.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepares and takes ownership of maintaining the fixed assets register and inventory catalogues of the Group
- Prepares general ledger reconciliations and required reporting in accordance with applicable international financial reporting standards and company policies.
- Takes ownership of facilitating, monitoring and ensuring that physical verification of fixed assets is carried out in accordance with internal and external guidelines.
- Maintain oversight of work-in-progress projects and liaise with project managers on project completion, costs incurred and payment forecasts.
- Deliver monthly expenditure projections on approved and future projects.
- Assists the Senior Financial Accountant in monitoring the financial control processes in balance sheet maintenance and integrity.
- Prepares and takes ownership of balance sheet reconciliations related to financial control for review by the Manager Financial Control.
- Support the month-end and year-end close process, including assistance in the monthly journal process.
- Assist in the external audit processes, including ensuring required information is provided in a timely manner for a smooth and timely completion of the audit.
- Assist in review and analysis of key accounting and financial controls in practice and provide recommendations for improvements.
- Completion of ad hoc projects and reports required by the Manager Financial Control, CFO, Heads of Departments and the Executive Management.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

Minimum of a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.

Fully qualified accountants or in training for completion of CA or CPA.

At least three years of experience with either a recognised firm of accountants or a reputable local or international business.

Strong technical skills and external audit experience.

Skilled in MS Excel and experience of EPICOR and AMOS would be advantageous.
