Manager Occupational Health and Safety

As the Manager of Occupational Health and Safety at Fiji Airways, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing the airline's occupational health and safety programs and initiatives. Your primary objective is to ensure a safe and healthy workplace for all employees while maintaining full compliance with relevant legislation, regulatory requirements, and industry standards. You will lead a team of safety professionals and work closely with cross-functional departments to drive a strong, proactive safety culture across the organization.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design and implement comprehensive occupational health and safety policies, procedures, and programs in alignment with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments and workplace inspections to identify hazards and evaluate potential risks.
  • Establish protocols and guidelines for incident reporting, investigation, and corrective actions.
  • Develop emergency response plans and coordinate drills to ensure organizational preparedness.
  • Stay up to date with relevant laws, regulations, and industry best practices related to occupational health and safety.
  • Monitor compliance with applicable standards and regulations, including those set by aviation authorities.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop and maintain safety procedures and practices that meet regulatory requirements.
  • Foster a strong safety culture by promoting awareness, engagement, and participation at all levels of the organization.
  • Provide guidance and support to management and employees on safety-related matters.
  • Deliver safety training and awareness programs to strengthen employee understanding of safety protocols.
  • Oversee the investigation of incidents, accidents, and near-miss events, ensuring thorough analysis and documentation.
  • Identify root causes of incidents and develop strategies to prevent recurrence.
  • Work with relevant departments to implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess the effectiveness of occupational health and safety programs.
  • Analyse safety data and prepare reports to identify trends, improvement areas, and opportunities to enhance safety performance.
  • Present safety reports to senior management and provide recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise a team of safety professionals, ensuring ongoing development and effective performance.
  • Provide guidance, support, and feedback to team members while fostering a collaborative and positive work environment.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety, Environmental Health, or a related field.
  • Professional Certification in Occupational Health and Safety is highly desirable.
  • Accredited and experienced OHS Training Instructor/Facilitator.
  • Proven experience in Occupational Health and Safety Management, preferably in the aviation or transportation industry.
  • Strong understanding of relevant OHS regulations, standards, and practices.
  • Strong knowledge of risk assessment methodologies, incident investigation techniques, and emergency response planning.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Analytical mind-set with the ability to collect and analyze safety-related data to drive continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement effective safety programs and initiatives.
  • Proficiency in using Safety Management software and tools.
  • Problem-solving and Decision-making abilities.
